Hello =D

Hey everybody!!!

So sorry I have not been on for awhile. I really just needed to take a break and read for myself. I think i jumped in to fast and tried to do so many things at once that I burned out. I have Die for Me on Currently reading but honestly, I finished that book a long time ago along with the second book in the series, Until I die. I wrote to the publicist of Amy Plum to see if i could get the ARC and she said I am on her mailing list, so hopefully I will get it soon =D

I have not forgotten about you guys. I am just not sure if i want this blog to be just about reviews since it is my NOOK (my little corner) not literally a nook reader. I do have a nookcolor but I also have a kindle. I would love to connect with my followers, talk about my book life since i am guessing everybody who follows me loves books as much as I do. Which brings me to my Christmas presents. I know not everybody celebrates Christmas so I would like to say Happy Holidays to every one =D I received money for xmas. I was to spend a certain amount on clothes and the rest for myself. I had to spend some on bills and buy presents for others. I finally had some left over for myself and guess what I got? Books! and a dvd. I loooove Vampire Diaries. I have the first two seasons so I HAD to get the third one. I know amazon sometimes have specials especially during the holidays. When i bought the first season it was only 11!!! I waited till the special for the third season was on and it finally did. I got it right away and had plenty left for books. Problem was that i wanted too many!! I I had a list alphabetized by author and their series and the date the series came out. For example Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead. Seriously peoplez, her series are amazing.
Here is what I ordered

Vampire Diaries Season 3
Starcrossed By Josephine Angelini
Dreamless By  Josephine Angelini
The Body Finder By Kimberly Derting
The Last Echo By Kimberly Derting
Desire of the Dead By Kimberly Derting
The Pledge By Kimberly Derting
Carrier Of The Mark By Leigh Fallon
Fifty Shades Of Grey Trilogy ( I already have it on my nook but i had to get them on my shelf!)

Did anybody else get books or recommend any?

Please ignore the I's. I keep forgetting so capitalize them and too lazy to go back and fix all of them >_<

Goodnight, Brian By Steven Manchester Review

Blurb
Fate was working against little Brian Mauretti. The food that was meant to nourish him was poisoning him instead, and the doctors said the damage was devastating and absolute. Fate had written off Brian. But fate didn’t count on a woman as determined as Brian’s grandmother, Angela DiMartino – who everyone knew as Mama. Loving her grandson with everything she had, Mama endeavored to battle fate. Fate had no idea what it was in for.

An emotional tale about the strength of family bonds, unconditional love, and the perseverance to do our best with the challenging gifts we receive, GOODNIGHT, BRIAN is an uplifting tribute to what happens when giving up is not an option.

Author Bio
:  Steven Manchester is the published author of Pressed Pennies, The Unexpected Storm: The Gulf War Legacy and Jacob Evans, as well as several books under the pseudonym, Steven Herberts. His work has appeared on NBC's Today Show, CBS's The Early Show, CNN’s American Morning and BET’s Nightly News. Recently, three of his short stories were selected "101 Best" for Chicken Soup for the Soul series.

Review
5/5 Looooooved it
Whenever I think about Steven Manchester's writing, I know it's going to be like a fresh breath of air since I mostly read paranormal. With Goodnight, Brian I was absolutely stunned by the situation( I am not one to read blurbs, I just dove into the story). I loved how this book challenged the family and made them even stronger. It gives people hope and determination to do something since there is no such thing as CAN'T for the wonderful grandma whom you would grow to love. I would recommend this to everybody who sometimes wonder if faith is enough. Faith is everything. Where professionals have failed, faith has conquered.

The Chronicles of Fire and Ice Tour Blog Stop

Blurb
Is love stronger than race?

The world is changeing as we know it, the human race is dwindling, but so are the angels. In order to preserve their bloodlines they have bred with humans, creating a new race called Nephilim. But there is one race that is more endangered than humans or Seraphim, Archangels.
As most people believe the Archangels have become extinct, rumours surface of a Legend; that a baby was born out of flame, the offspring of an archangel.

Dyston Blackbell is tasked to find and protect this child. He sends her strange dreams in hope that she will find him. When he discovers that she has enrolled at his family’s angel academy in Melbourne, he will do anything to protect Scarlett. But when he finds himself falling for her the Heavenly realm rejects him.

But 21-year-old Scarlett Porter realises that being half Archangel has some advantages. She has developed a unique trait, one that marks her as an Archangel. Will she keep it to herself or use it to fight back?

When an old enemy resurfaces, The Lucifites, Scarlett discovers that Dyston’s older brother Lakyn is at the helm of their sinister plans; to destroy the Nephilim race or use Scarlett for their own selfish purposes when they find out who she really is.

And when Lakyn discovers that Scarlett had only seduced him to rescue Dyston from his prison in the Realm of Light, it sends him on a journey of self-discovery and destruction. One that sees him venturing farther off course than his father would like. Will he choose a new life of love or his old life of darkness?

Interview with Freelance Illustrator Eithne Ni Anluain

Hey everybody!!! I have some great news. I had the chance to interview the talented Eithne Ni Anluain who I have become very fond of. Wonderful gal! On this tour we will be making 14 stops and you will see some of her pieces on each. Enjoy!!

Interview

When did you start your career as a freelance Illustrator?

About 3 years ago. It happened by default accident. I lost my job and any hope of further work in the career I was in over a period of time and I started to do some artwork for a author forum I was involved with. It just took off from there. I should explain that I was accepted to art collage when I was 18, but went into science instead. So it could be said after 10 years and several convoluting roads and career changes I am eventually doing what I should have done when I was 18. I'm a firm believer in karma, so this is the right time to do it. I have a better understanding of business, people and clients where younger artists don't have that luxury.

What was your very first piece?

Night Flight
I actually hated editing models! They were so difficult (still are) so I used to do a lot of eye manipulations. Night Flight , was one of the first I did following a online tutorial. I eventually got over my fear of models though.

What inspired you to be a freelance illustrator?

I think it was a combination of things. I love to read. I read my first fantasy book when I was 6 and I was for ever being given out to in school for making my essays "not realistic" enough.  When I started to do art I thought it was a natural progression to do book cover art. I could combine two things I loved to do!

What did you do to get your name out into the world?

Hard work. Social media, portfolio sites, professional networking sites and a bit of luck.

How did you feel when you got your first gig?

Well dogs couldn't hear me for the squealing and I may bounced off the fit ball (I sit on one) in delight!

Did you go to school or were you self -taught?

I have a P.h D from the University of Google.

Do u have a list of songs you listen to when you are working? If so what are they?

I used to listen to the radio a lot, but then I'd get aggravated with the auto tune. I have a huge obsession with the 1950s. Its gotten to the stage my father just rolls his eyes with the gear coming into the house. One day I accidentally clicked on Jazz Radio on iTunes and thats been it ever since. Usually the legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Glenn Miller are my staple but lets not forget The Andrews Sisters and The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Any modern music along those lines will also be listened to like Paloma Faith, Adele…

What is something that you would like your fans to know about you?

I have a unhealthy obsession with 1950 swing dresses, lace and all things retro.

What advice do you have for artists who are trying to become known?

Be professional. Do not whinge publicly (except about hair masking or painting - thats allowed!) about clients. Yes you can moan to your friends and a good moan does help but only in private. Make sure you respond to all e-mails even if you do not want the job - and this leads me to access. Be accessible. Have your own .com site, not hosted on wix & co. Be active on social media but be more so on the Networking sites like Behance and Linked In. Only ever show the top 10% of your work. Its not quantity people look for its quality. 10 good pieces is better than 20 mediocre ones.

Is there a piece that you enjoyed making much more than others?

Probably Sadar Bua  as it started it all off.

What process do you go through to make the final product?

Quickly its like this: find model I like (harder than most as I'm a picky mare regards quality of a image), have a final concept in my head, find stock to match, open PS, make a cup of tea and go for it.

Do you have any hobbies?

I used to train my working line GSD in IPO/Schutzhund. He's now retired so I now help train other people and their dogs. Reading and I love TV and movies. I get a lot of inspiration from those 3.

Is there something that you would really like to do or accomplish?

Be on all the freelance lists for major fantasy publishers.

Has anybody ever told you something that really touched your heart?

Chris Dame a photographer I work for said "Your force is strong!" I was so delighted with this as I'm a huge Star Wars nerd!

Favorite food?
Only one! Em…chocolate…cheesy taco chips…cups of tea…chocolate hob nobs…MMs…roast chicken dinner…steak…sticky toffee pudding. I go to restaurants and I pick my starter and main in accordance to the desert menu! I have a serious sweet tooth.

Favorite color?

Depends on mood, currently its turquoise.

Favorite place to go to?

Beaches

Favorite movie? Genre of movies you like to watch

Anything but chick flicks. Think guys with swords/sniper rifles/magic/The Force, girls with swords/guns/magic/The Force and cars that change into robots. Don't really do horror ones, would rather watch National Lampoons!

Favorite music genre?

Jazz and rockabilly

Favorite holiday?

Madrid with my twin soul sister Eva! The FOOD!

Random Facts about yourself

Geek, nerd, 1950s obsessive, old soul, secretly love Spitfire planes, knights, IPO trainer, geologist, environmental surveyor, fantasy addict, love big dresses and guns, nickname is Crazy Legz or E.

Thank you so much Eithne for letting me interview you.

Review
By the time I came to this book I had just finished a bunch of Young Adult books and noticed a pattern. Hot guys, out of place teenager, high school, and guy and girl fall in love in a couple of seconds(exaggeration). Well,  Wicked Fate was nothing but unique! Tabatha Vargo surprised me with little things that popped up here and there. There were definitely some parts where I was like " WOW!, that's genius" After about 60 pages I was swallowed into this adventure. Time just flew! There are some kick @ss scenes and moments where you just want to kick someones butt but hey! all great books make you feel this way. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I am seriously dying to find out what happens next. If you want to read an action, romantic, and "what the heck just happened" kind of book. This is for you!!!!

Laura By E.H James Review

Laura By E.H James
Blurb
He was a salesman, traveling lonesome roads, eating in out-of-the-way places. A stranded traveler, standing on the roadside, was nothing new to him. But the quiet young woman in the wet dress needed a help he could not give.

Review
Laura is a haunting short story about love lost. George is a salesman traveling down a lonely country road one night when he runs into a strange silent girl on the side of the road. And here endeth my summary because I’m afraid if I tell you more than that, I’ll give too much away! You’re going to have to read it for yourself to find out more…
I liked this little short story. The author gives us simple but compelling imagery. There are no wasted details here or monotonous meandering. E.H. James gives us a short, sweet read that leaves you wanting more. My only complaint is that I wanted to linger in the scenes a little longer and I can’t think of any higher praise to give a story teller. Well done! I will definitely read more of E.H. James in the future.

The Coffee Shop By Lauren Hunter Review

The Coffee Shop By Lauren Hunter

Blurb
If Derrick thought experiencing alternate timelines and glimpses into the future was strange then he had no idea it was about to get far more strange than he ever imagined.

When Derrick Sloane meets Annie Maddock and falls madly in love, he believes he's met the girl of his dreams. Only he then awakes to discover she is exactly that...nothing more than a dream. Disheartened, he goes to the first coffee shop he can find. There he meets Annie. She is at the same table, reading the same book, and he fast realizes his dream has shown him his own future. But when a misstep alters that perfect future he tries to fix it, every attempt only making it worse.

Can he fix what he has changed? Should he even try?

Excerpt
There was a rap at the door. “Your hot chocolate is ready.”

“Thanks, I’ll be right down.”

There was a pause. “You sure you’re all right?”

“Why do you keep asking me that?”

“Oh, I don’t know. I can hear something in your voice.”

“In my voice? What are you, part dog or something?”

Derrick  chuckled.  “There might be a girl from college that may just agree with you on that.” Again there was a pause. “May I come in?”

“Actually, I was about to get dressed.”

“So, you’re saying you’re not decent?”

“No, I’m wearing a bathrobe.”

“Well good, because I’m coming in.”

“No, Derrick…” But he had already opened the door, and setting the cocoa
aside he came over standing before her as she sat on the bed.

“Okay, now I know something’s wrong. Annie, why didn’t you tell me how bad you hurt yourself?”

“It’s not that bad. I’m not about to make a big deal out of nothing.”

“You don’t need to be brave for me. If anything it’s really important that you be as honest as you can, with both yourself, and me, about this. I don’t want you doing any more damage because you are trying to force yourself to do something you shouldn’t be.”

“All right, I’ll admit, my ankles are a little sore. I must have stretched the muscles or something.”

“It looks like they are a lot more than a little sore.”

“Well you know what they say. A sprain is a lot more painful than a break. Although that would obviously depend on the break. But I’ve sprained something, and I’ve broken something, and I’d have to agree with that assessment, the sprain was much more painful. But as far as that goes this isn’t even that bad.”

“Pain is our body’s way of telling us we are hurt.” Derrick looked concerned.

“You do realize you sound like Mr. Rogers?”

“Those people that feel you have to be in pain to accomplish something.” He shook his head.

“Well, I’ll agree with you on that score.”

“If they hurt you need to stay off them. You don’t want to make it worse.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“Well, look at it this way, by using them while they’re sore you will probably lengthen the time it takes for them to heal.”

The idea of experiencing what she was now for any longer than she absolutely had to, was not an appealing concept, to say the least. “I’ll try to take it as easy as I can.”

“Try?”

“Well I am not going to spend the remainder of the weekend in this bed.”

“No need.”

“What are you saying?”

Before she had a chance to reply, Derrick had slipped one arm beneath her knees, the other around her back and under her arms.

“Whoa! What are you doing?”

“Well, I would have thought that was obvious.”

“Oh, you have to be kidding me.”

“What makes you think that?”

“You are not serious.”

“Completely.”

“What? So, you’re going to carry me everywhere?”

“Pretty much.”

“Oh now that’s just too much!”

He was already lifting her into his arms as though she was nothing, and she wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her out the door and onto the balcony. He was wearing a sweater but she could still feel his taut and rippling muscles beneath it. The muscles in his arms flexing against her as he carried her carefully down the stairs. The heat from his body reached through her bathrobe as she held her face close to his, the scent of soap and aftershave wafting up around her as he grasped her tightly to him. Setting her on the sofa next to the fire, he turned his face to hers. For a moment they just stayed like that, holding each other, their lips close as his eyes moved down her face to her mouth.

Review
Wealthy, handsome Derrick Sloane stops at a coffee shop and meets the love of his life. Annie Maddock is a sweet, vulnerable, smart woman trying to define herself under her own terms. I liked her immediately. (Derrick is also sweet and vulnerable, and perhaps a little too good to be true, but I found it impossible to resist his charms.)
What appears to be a traditional sweet romance takes a turn about one hundred pages into the story when Derrick wakes up one morning to find that his relationship with Annie was nothing but a dream. He races back to the coffee shop and ‘meets’ his love all over again. I found the dream sequences a bit confusing, but ultimately Derrick finds himself waking up to different ‘timelines’or realities. In each timeline, the lovers’ relationship has changed based on small details or advice offered in the previous sequence. Through the course of the story, Derrick is faced with the possible death of his best friend and the death of his beloved Annie. Each time he tries to ‘fix’ the problem, unexpected consequences arise.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The story idea is interesting and unique. I liked the characters and I really liked the premise that love transcends all things. The conversations between Annie and Derrick could have been edited for a speedier, more comfortable read and I would love to have the first realization of the timelines occur much, much earlier in the narrative. However, if you love the tender romance of The Notebook or The Time Traveler’s Wife, you’ll be hard pressed to put this book down.  And it’s impossible to read the ending without a few tears.
Review By Kristi J. Thank you so much for helping me out.
